During warm New York City days, I often ride my bike out to Rockaway Beach. This sandy stretch of Queens is known for its beloved boardwalk and devoted surfers, but not its attention to luxury or hospitality—at least, until now. The Rockaway Hotel is a new luxury property that’s ideal for New Yorkers looking for a close-by getaway. Accessible by public transportation, it’s unlike any other stay in the city—mostly because you don’t feel like you’re in the city at all.

Just steps from the shore, The Rockaway Hotel offers 53 guest rooms with coast-inspired decor and touches of Scandinavian design. It also boasts eight extended-stay suites, a lively pool area, and a full-service spa. The extensive food and beverage program includes a restaurant serving updated American classics called Margie’s, a rooftop bar with ocean views and craft cocktails, and a street-side coffee shop.
